THE PROCESS - How it’s done

Planning:

  1. The initial estimate is prepared based on linear feet, number of tight corners, curb profile and finish. The estimate takes about 30 minutes of your time. We will examine and measure the areas for the installation. We will also bring actual samples to help you decide the profile, pattern and colour of your custom landscape edging. View Styles and Patterns.
  2. At this point you are under no obligation to proceed. The Garden’s Edge has a package to fit any budget. This is a good time to shop around and compare our prices to stone or other product - and don’t forget to include labour costs for your time and effort. Since our equipment is small, we can also manage those difficult-to-reach projects (min 30" opening).View Benefits and our Photo Gallery.
  3. The initial estimate may be revised based on the final decisions made at installation.

Laying the curb:

  1. Spray paint is used to lay out the pattern, as a guide for the sod-cutter.
  2. Sod is cut and rolled up ready for disposal. At this point any final changes in the design must be made. Note that we take great care not to disturb your existing landscape.
  3. The ground is then compacted and levelled (with a bit of sand), if needed.
  4. Zero-slump concrete is mixed in the trailer-mixer with colour, fibre-mesh, air-entrainment and efflorguard or similar products. We measure and record colour, aggregate (sand), cement and admixtures to ensure consistency throughout installation. The concrete is transported by wheelbarrow to the extrusion site. No large vehicles are used - ensuring that your yard will look as good as new when The Garden’s Edge is finished.
  5. The concrete is placed by shovel into the hopper of our professional extrusion machine. It compacts and extrudes the curb in the profile and colour of your choice.
  6. The profile is hand trowelled, then stamped or rolled with powder to create a natural looking stone pattern, if desired.
  7. Finally the curb is sprayed with a sealant to slow down the curing process (and ensure the hardest finish). The sealer also helps to enhance the colour.
  8. Upon completion of the project (usually within a day), we clean the area. When The Garden’s Edge leaves, you will have a professional, attractive, completed landscape - the envy of your neighbourhood!
